  • Parma, 1987: a group of young designers with different backgrounds and skills decided to follow a common road, focusing on a brand new way of interpreting their profession, which was to result in the creation of POLICREO S.r.l.. The partners' main intention was to create an organization that could foster an innovative approach to design, based around an integration of three closely related disciplines: Engineering, Architecture and the Environment.

In operational terms, POLICREO has grown out of significant insights that were always ahead of their time: in fact, from the outset, the studio kitted itself out with pioneering dedicated digital design tools and calculation and computer programs using US hardware not marketed in Italy at the time.

Since 2000, the company has made sweeping changes to its structure, enriching its already substantial talent base with specialists in its main sectors of activity; this operation led to the necessity for new and bigger premises, specially designed to successfully manage an integrated multidisciplinary approach, resulting in the building in 2003 of the current establishment in Parma, at Via Bondi 14A.

By now the seemingly utopian dreams of its beginnings have become consolidated reality, with the contribution of more than thirty professionals with specific expertise, spread among the main spheres of operation.

The design approach, as refined as it is and strengthened by decades of experience, is still characterized by the initial intentions, embodied in the name chosen, POLICREO (literally "Multi-creation"): a non-stop interaction between a solid rational base and the irrational spirit that elicits every creative impulse, the working method is based, in every phase, on integrated multidisciplinary design, and an ethical approach intended to ensure the environmental and social sustainability of every operation.

  • Sergio Beccarelli

    Architect

Born in Cortemaggiore near Piacenza on 29/8/61, he currently lives and works in Parma. In 1989, he graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Florence. Since April 1990, he has been a member of the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservationists of the Province of Parma, registered under number 377. In 1987, he co-founded POLICREO, working within it as Planner and Clerk of Works for public and private projects in the sectors of construction, restoration of historic sites, large-scale transport infrastructures, planning, the environment, landscape and land-use. He is a member of the Association of Environmental Analysts, an institution that brings together individuals and corporations, bodies and associations that operate in the field of environmental analysis, in order to facilitate the establishment of integrated environmental management on a concrete interdisciplinary basis. He takes part in a discussion group within the association that deals with strategic environmental assessment and land management. In 1990, to better pursue the goal of “Integrated Design” in civil, infrastructural and planning fields, he began a course of professional specialization and lifelong learning in the environmental field and in the specialist disciplines of planning and research into eco-friendly building systems and technologies. The evidence-based working method that characterizes his professional approach is built on a preventative multidisciplinary analysis of the environmental conditions that typify the urban and regional contexts that will be impacted by project schemes, and a search for design solutions that can compete, in terms of sustainability, energy efficiency, functionality, comfort and compositional quality and performance, with the trends and patterns of the various reference frameworks. This way of working translates into a holistic design culture that seeks to integrate a number of technical, social and humanistic disciplines; his acknowledged professionalism has proved a great asset in the many design projects carried out for public administrations and bodies, mobility infrastructure concessionaires and leading industrial groups, which also led him to take up teaching, as well as being invited to speak at forums, conventions and workshops of national interest.
