On 12 October 2024, an important step forward for sustainable mobility in the city of Milan was celebrated with the inauguration of the entire M4 metro line, the ‘Blue Line’, which connects Linate Airport to San Cristoforo, extending 15 kilometres through 21 stations. This strategic project not only facilitates access to Linate Airport, but also represents a fundamental backbone for the intermodal development of the city, greatly facilitating travel between neighbourhoods that were previously not reached by the metro network. The M4 stands as an example of a mobility infrastructure that interprets the ethics and principles of the environmentally friendly development paradigm. It is a modern, fully automated line designed to carry up to 24,000 passengers per hour at a frequency of 90 seconds during rush hour. The completion of the line represents a great achievement for the collective mobility offer with a decisive role in terms of environmental impact, as it is expected to reduce about 3.7 million car trips per year and cut CO₂ emissions by more than 75,000 tonnes, making Milan a more sustainable and interconnected city.
This is why we have enthusiastically welcomed this inauguration: Policreo is proud to have been able to contribute to the realisation of such an important work for Milan and its citizens; a work in which we have been involved from the very beginning, in the initial phase of the public tender, and which sees in the identity of its spaces, of which we have outlined the concept, the inspiring principles of wayfindig and Universal Design and global sustainability that guide our professionalism and our mission.
