Learning from the Built Environment: A Study Day at the Rovereto sulla Secchia School Complex

On March 9, the Policreo team took part in a site visit to the new school complex in Rovereto sulla Secchia (MO), designed by Studio Contini of Langhirano under the direction of architect Marco Contini, following a competition organized by the Unione delle Terre d’Argine. The recently completed building houses an elementary school and a middle school, both with two sections, as well as a series of communal spaces—gym, auditorium, music room, library, and cafeteria—covering a total area of approximately 4,750 square meters. A complex system that reflects the growing complexity of contemporary educational environments. The visit took the form of a full-fledged day of study and discussion. Architect Contini guided the group through the project, illustrating not only the formal and spatial design choices but also the process that led to its realization, offering an integrated perspective on concept, construction, and use. For Policreo, the participation of its multidisciplinary team represented a particularly significant moment: an opportunity for hands-on learning to draw upon in order to approach the new experiences and work activities it is preparing to undertake with greater awareness and competence. Observing a school building in its built and lived-in state allows one to concretely verify design choices, compare them with other methodologies, and broaden one’s perspective.

A heartfelt thanks to architect Marco Contini, who kindly guided our group and shared truly valuable insights and reflections. His openness and the time he dedicated to us made this experience even more enriching and meaningful for all of us.
