A few days ago, the Mix House XXV Aprile project was featured in a television segment produced by Ceramicanda in collaboration with the Panaria Group, which explores the architectural, construction, and material choices underlying one of the most innovative social housing projects carried out in Parma. The segment can be viewed between the 11:07 and 15:46 marks.

The segment comes at a particularly significant moment for the project: on Monday, June 22, at 11:00 a.m., the Mosaico Abitativo Solidale (MAS-1) – Mix House will be inaugurated—a project carried out as part of the PINQuA program (National Innovative Program for Quality of Living), funded through the PNRR.

The Mix House represents a new model of living, based on intergenerational coexistence, the quality of common spaces, and the building of relationships among people with different needs and life paths. The complex houses 60 units, intended for seniors, young families, and students, within a housing system that promotes inclusion, mutual support, and participation.

The project, developed by Policreo as the lead design firm in collaboration with Costel Progettazioni and Macro Design Studio, and built by Allodi Società Benefit for Parma Infrastrutture, was completed on schedule thanks to close collaboration between the design team, the construction manager, the contractor, and the public administration.

But the inauguration is not an endpoint. For those involved in social housing, the handover of the building marks the beginning of a new phase: that of use, relationships, and the daily building of community. The common spaces, balconies, green areas, shared gardens, and spaces dedicated to collective activities were designed to welcome not only people but also opportunities for connection and mutual support. In this sense, once the physical construction is complete, a second—and perhaps more important—phase begins: the life that will fill these spaces.

Time will transform the project into a lived experience, testing in practice architecture’s ability to foster new forms of coexistence, community-based welfare, and community building.
