With the approval decree of 24 January 2025, the Lombardy Region issued the single authorisation measure for the construction of Esselunga’s new logistics and production centre in Ospitaletto (BS). This is a fundamental step in the regeneration process of the former Stefana area, a disused site of approximately 950,000 square metres that will be transformed into a state-of-the-art infrastructure with a strong environmental and social value.
A project that focuses on the territory and the community
The masterplan developed by Policreo for Esselunga envisages an integrated approach that combines logistical functionality, sustainability and quality of life. The regeneration of the area includes land reclamation, the creation of a 200,000 square metre linear agro-environmental park, a system of cycle and footpaths and a multifunctional service centre. The inclusion of vineyards, orchards and natural ecosystems will not only improve the quality of the landscape in the area. Still, it will also promote biodiversity and the local community’s well-being.
Towards a sustainable future: renewable energy and climate resilience
The project also includes the construction of a photovoltaic park designed for the future production of green hydrogen and a reservoir for ecological rebalancing and lamination for sustainable water management and the protection of water resources. The plan considers environmental mitigation strategies and maximum energy efficiency, with a view to development that will positively impact the territory. For Policreo, it is a source of great satisfaction to have contributed to this transformation, which represents a concrete model of urban regeneration where infrastructure and landscape integrate to create a balance between development and nature.
The project, carried out entirely in BIM, included the functional architectural design of the building structures and the infrastructural works related to the project.
An in-depth article on magazine Topscape will be published shortly to describe the vision and our design approach that guided this vital initiative in detail.
